“The Lord sent Shaune & Shalise from Calvary Chapel St. George to Thailand in November of 2002 to minister to the Karen refugees and IDP’s (Internally Displaced People) along the Thailand-Burma border. They live in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Shaune works with Partners, a Christian relief and development organization whose mission is to “demonstrate God’s love to victims of conflict and oppression.” She is currently involved in medical relief and training, children’s ministry, and leading teams that come over and share their hope and faith in Jesus Christ.
Shalise is a senior and currently engrossed in her studies at Chiang Mai International School. In her spare time she travels to the border to play with the kids and spend time with the youth that live in refugee camps, as well as learning and helping alongside her mom with the medical outreaches. She will graduate in June 2008 and plans to go into the medical field.
Presently the Karen and other ethnic minority groups in Burma suffer atrocities at the hands of the Burma military dictatorship. The Burma Army is brutal, forcing villagers to porter supplies, and routinely kills and rapes them before burning their homes and villages, clinics and churches. Both Shaune & Shalise long to see the Karen people have a life of freedom and joy without fear—both now and for eternity in Jesus Christ!”
